Project profile

Raw materials and capacity: sludge of 250,000 tons/day WWTP
PURAC scope: EPC of sludge treatment system

In 2020, PURAC signed the contract of Ulaanbaatar central sewage treatment plant sludge digestion project, which is an EPC project of the whole process of sludge anaerobic system, including design, equipment supply, installation and commissioning.

The project is located in Sanginokhel Khan District, southwest of Ulaanbaatar, with a maximum treatment capacity of 250,000m3/d, which is currently the largest and most modern WWTP in Mongolia with the largest construction capital of single project, and will serve for 43.5% of population in Mongolia after completion.

The process route of sludge treatment in this WWTP is “mechanical concentration + anaerobic digestion  + dewatering by decanter centrifuge”.  The anaerobic digestion technology is PURAC patented ANAMET process, which run at mesophilic temperature. Four digesters with single volume of14000m3 are set up in the anaerobic system, and the biogas is used by CHP.

ANAMET is patented anaerobic process of PURAC, with the characteristics of strong resistance to impact load, stable and reliable, low operation cost, can be used for treatment of restaurant waste, household waste, sewage sludge, high-concentration wastewater, etc. It can also adapt to the harsh conditions (extreme cold and high altitude) in the project to meet the needs.

The Ulaanbaatar WWTP is an important project of cooperation between China and Mongolia in the field of people's livelihood. PURAC will adhere to the concept of "extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits" of the "Belt and Road" Initiative, and integrate advanced technology and successful experience into the project, thus contributing to the construction of a landmark project in "Belt and Road" construction.
