Xiaohongmen WWTP, which is located in the southeast of Beijing, is one of the large urban WWTP that have been built in the central urban area of Beijing, covering the western suburbs, southwest suburbs and most areas of the southern suburbs, with a total drainage area of 223.5 km2. Xiaohongmen WWTP has a capacity of 600,000m3/d and severs 2.4 million of population. Its process adopts the A2O that can remove phosphorus and nitrogen effectively. 

In order to achieve the goal of harmlessness, stability, recycling and reduction of sludge in Beijing urban area, Beijing Drainage Group has chosen an advanced anaerobic digestion process route. Compared with the traditional digestion process, the advanced anaerobic digestion process uses THP as sludge pretreatment, and the sludge treated by anaerobic digestion meets the requirements of green, low-carbon and circular economy, so it is one of the leading technologies for sludge harmlessness disposal in the world, and is also the development trend of industry technology and application.

Xiaohongmen project is one of the projects in Beijing that adopts advanced anaerobic digestion for sludge treatment. The main process technology integrates THP + mesophilic temperature anaerobic digestion + chamber filter press dewatering process. the sludge is pumped into the renovate digester of Xiaohongmen WWTP for anaerobic digestion after THP pretreatment; The digestate is dewatered by chamber filter press.

PURAC provides an overall process design and system integration consulting service, and at the same time be responsible for core equipment supply and technical services such as commissioning and test run for the sludge anaerobic digestion system. This project has been running stably for many years.
